The OT Substack
Not AI
“Unusual Option Activity” scanners started popping up like daisies post-covid. With the trend of 0DTE option trading meeting the explosion of new retail day traders and hedge-fund chasing, we wanted no part of that in a serious option research tool for high-conviction swing & trend traders. So we - LaDucTrading in collaboration with VolLand - went about building a comprehensive dataset with matching logic across all option trades, displaying queries & filters in a 7-month look-back, that has never touched an AI engine.
We also know that LLM wrappers on option flow tools are popping up by new & old services alike as “new” interpretations to unusual option activity. They may look new, but they are recycling the same data. They have not improved the data structure, or context of intent, or provided back-tested relevance of conviction. We have. And without any AI augmentation or involvement in the process.
The concept for OptionTeller is original. The authentic data in the database is OPRA-driven. The matching logic, customer-trade assumptions, and relevance indicator (and the algos behind them) … are all human-inspired and developed. The website, dashboard and design for both are also human-inspired and developed.
Let us emphatically repeat: AI has not been used in any part of this project!
»We will, however, allow AI agents to integrate with our proprietary dataset via API so that users can create their own custom scans & prompt-driven results.«
What Is OptionTeller?
OptionTeller is a comprehensive database of option trades designed to match customer-level trading tactics with a bullish, bearish or neutral assumption based on the underlying, and to present these findings in an easy-to-use database with filters along with a relevance score from lowest-to-highest conviction.
Using the OPRA data feed, OptionTeller has the most robust time & sales database available, with every option trade included from all exchanges.
By including every trade in the dataset, OptionTeller can then identify, match and score each trade relative to the historical period to better track the largest, unusual volume in open interest and highest-conviction trades.
Through queries and filters, users can leverage the OptionTeller matching logic to perform in-depth research on positioning that identifies the customer’s intent for better context and conviction.
A relevance indicator is then applied to determine how aggressive and/or unusual each trade is compared to the rest of the trades in the underlying over a 7-month historical database, allowing user to also track the influence of large option trades on the direction of the underlying.
The App Versus The Substack
The OptionTeller App can be found here. It is totally separate from this Substack.
Each are $99/mo. The difference is simple:
with access to our quantitative database, you pick the trades.
with access to our qualitative analysis, we recommend our trades to you.
By subscribing to the OptionTeller Substack, you get access to our Best Daily Idea, which is based on a personal selection from the option intelligence presented by OptionTeller. We pick the flow of choice, and then manually assess the trade set-up against our macro, sector, fundamental, sentiment, and technical analysis. No AI. Again, all human inspired and developed by professional option traders with unique perspective that is shared with members.
By subscribing to the OptionTeller app, you get access to all that OT has to offer so you can do all of the analysis yourself! You can even integrate your AI agent into our proprietary API for customized prompts.
